After the drama, Italy wins the day at Challenge Bernadotte

When the world cup competition for national teams at Challenge Bernadotte in Stockholm ended on Sunday afternoon, Italy could step highest on the podium after a very dramatic final which had to be decided in sudden death.

The first part of the final was dominated by Poland, despite having to substitute one fencer due to injury. After 7 of the 9 matches, Poland was in the lead by 33-30. At that time, Italy makes a substitution and puts in Paolo Pizzo, a highly accomplished and intensive fencer who could get Italy back in the match and even the score to 39-39. After the 9th and final match, the score was still tied; 41-41. In overtime, the very experienced Alfredo Rota could land the final touch and win the competition for Italy.
