Welcome to Challenge Bernadotte

Challenge Bernadotte welcomes the best men's épée fencers in the world to Stockholm every year.

The aim is to provide a well-organised event, presenting fencing of the highest quality in the Swedish capital.

Challenge Bernadotte was first organised in 1998 and Arndt Schmitt of Germany was the first in a row of distinguished épéeists to claim the victory.

The competition originates from the national competition "Bernadottepokalen" which was organised in honour of the president the Stockholm club Djurgården, count Oscar Bernadotte af Wisborg.  

H.M. The King of Sweden is the protector of the competition.

Challenge Bernadotte is organised by the Swedish Fencing Federation, in co-operation with the Stockholm Fencing Region, the fencing clubs of Stockholm and the rest of Sweden.
